ENG 21600 Epic Literature Honors

In this seminar-style course, students will investigate the origins of the literary epic and its evolution through time. Readings in literary history and criticism will be used to supplement discussion of the course texts. Students will deliver presentations to the class, engage in original research, and write multiple lengthy essays that draw upon scholarly sources and engage in literary analysis. Readings will span from the epics of Mesopotamia and ancient Greece, to Milton’s Paradise Lost, to contemporary epics such as Middlesex.
