ENG 20100 World Literature I

How did human society interact with Nature, God, and themselves before the Fifteenth Century? How did they pursue love, romance, heroism and struggle with jealousy and loneliness? Students explore these and many other general human experiences in the great works by renowned authors such as Murasaki Shikibu, Lao Tzu, Homer, and Plautus. Through analyzing selected works, students evaluate the influence of cultural traditions and social conventions on authors’ writing style and selection of topics and examine the relevance of the themes to their own lives.
