ENG 20700 Studies in the Short Story

In this survey-style course, students will explore the history of the short story since the early 19th century to the present through the works of prominent authors from each era. Students will engage with captivating narratives covering the human experience across various cultures and locations. This course also examines the elements of the short story, the differences between the short story and the other types of fiction, and the relationship between a story and its time and place
