HIS 11800 Western Civilization, 1500 - Present - Honors

Traces key developments in the history of the West, with focus on Europe since 1500. Topics include: the Renaissance, Reformation, Scientific Revolution, Age of Exploration and colonization; Enlightenment and French Revolution; Industrial Revolution; 20th-century world wars and totalitarianism; and postwar developments including the Cold War, history of NATO, and globalization. Students will explore critical events in the formation of the modern era and examine major debates about power and the West’s global interactions. A research paper/project is required.
