Program Description:

The goal of the Humanities degree is to develop students’ intellectual abilities and gain a deeper understanding of human relationships in diverse social, cultural, linguistic, and global contexts for the past, present, and future. Core curriculum focuses on analysis, problem solving, critical thinking, writing, and communication. The curriculum prepares students with the knowledge to pursue majors in areas such as English, Philosophy, History, Journalism, Creative Writing, Communication Studies, Education, Political Science, Gender Studies, Inter-Disciplinary Studies or another area of their choosing. This degree is intended to prepare students for transfer into a four-year baccalaureate program.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate effective communication
  • Recognize the nuance and complexity of meaning through critical reflections on text, visual images and/or artifacts
  • Explore diversity of individuals and communities locally and globally from an historical perspective
  • Apply ethical creation, dissemination, and use of information
  • Develop well-reasoned, logical arguments and acknowledge limitations such as perspective and bias
