SOC 21200 Sociology of Deviant Behavior

This course critically examines deviance and social control in contemporary society. Topics include: identifying sociological explanations for deviance and social control; examining major theoretical perspectives within sociology; distinguishing between deviant and conforming behavior; identifying specific deviant behaviors and careers; and analyzing current research related to ameliorating particularly problematic deviant behaviors. Sociological concepts, theory, and methods related to the study of non-conforming behaviors are the primary focus of this course.
