SOC 20300 Marriage and the Family

This course analyzes the family as an evolving social institution. Topics include: analysis of the structure and function of marriage and family in various cultures; alternatives to traditional marriage and family; and diversity of marriage and family life within given cultures. The relation of marriage and family to other social institutions, as well as the significance of socialization by the family, will also be explored.
