HIS 21300 Psychohistory I: Sex, Childhood and Personality in Western Society

Psychology has always been part of history, but only recently have historians begun to move away from generalized impressions, and toward systematic applications. This psychohistory course studies attitudes toward sanity, sex and childhood from ancient times to the present. It treats the psychobiographies of major historical figures in the past and present and explores such group processes as utopian thought, revolutionary violence, witchcraft mania, and the origins of World War II in their psycho-historical contexts.
