HIS 20300 Modern European History

This course highlights the major developments in European history and culture since the closing decades of the 19th century. Advances in technology, economics, development, urbanization, social class and competing nationalisms are examined and related to the outbreak of World War I. The rival interwar between Communist and Fascist dictatorships is also examined. World War II and the Holocaust are documented and the East-West split during the Cold War will be studied. The collapse of Communism and the unifying effects of the European Union, as well as Europe's relationship with the Middle East and other regions, will be featured even as events unfold.
