BIO 11200 Phage Hunters 1: Discovery

Phage Hunters 1: Discovery is the first of a two semester research-based laboratory course sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Science Education Alliance. Students will isolate bacteriophages from local soil samples, purify and characterize their phages, and select one phage per class for genetic sequencing. Students in this course will make significant contributions to the field of genomics while gaining skill in the process of scientific inquiry, hypothesis development and testing, and practice in common microbiological techniques.
