Institutional Learning Outcomes

Institutional Learning Outcomes are a set of knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes and behaviors that a student attains at the end of his or her academic career through a particular set of experiences (academic, non-academic, social, cultural and/or political).  Upon the completion of a Rockland Community College Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS) or Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, a student will demonstrate competency in the following four (4) areas:

  • Communicate Effectively
    • communicate ideas in appropriate language, and formats while demonstrating respect, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability to different audiences, contexts, and purpose
  • Critical Thinking
    • analyze credibility, relevance, and logic of multiple viewpoints to make informed decisions, solve problems, and think creatively
  • Demonstrate Information Literacy and Technical Competency
    • gather and analyze information from a diverse set of sources
    • identify and use appropriate technology to improve efficiency and productivity for completing specific task
  • Exhibit Career Readiness and Personal Development 
    • develop skills for navigating personal growth
    • work effectively toward common goals, while appreciating diverse perspectives and shared responsibilities
