JRN 20200 Foundations of Modern Journalism

An examination of the forms and philosophies of 21st century American journalism as it evolves during the postwar years (1946-1980) into the hybrid from of narrative non-fiction and journalistic writing prevalent in today’s marketplace. Students will also analyze important writers and the societal and technological factors that have influenced the shift in focus from reporting on larger institutions to emphasizing the individual lives of those affected by those institutions. Students will create journalistic and fictional writing projects.
