ENG 23010 African-American Literature (1700-Present)

African American literature covers literary works written by Black Writers from the 1700s to present day. We will read works of nonfiction (biography, essay, memoir, and/or autobiography), poetry, drama, and fiction to explore United States of America history in the development and continuity of African American culture, ethnic identity, and the literary tradition. Writers may include Equiano, Stewart, Jacobs, Ai, DuBois, Larsen, Hughes, Brooks, Baldwin, Morrison, Coates, Dove, Walker, Hansberry, Sundiata, Hurston, McGruder, Brandon-Croft Douglass, Wheatley, Brown, Harper, Plato, and Dunbar.
