SOC 10100 Principles of Sociology - Honors

Students will learn central concepts and major research methods in sociology. This honors course examines macro- and micro-sociological perspectives, how culture influences us, socialization and social change. There is particular emphasis on social inequality with respect to race, ethnicity, sex and gender, and age as well as an in-depth consideration of the five basic institutions in our society - family, religion, education, politics and the economy. Students will develop a "sociological lens" with which to analyze both the broader pieces of our society and the smaller, more intimate social action. Students will engage in original research and will present their findings to the class.
