ART 26400 Art and the African American Experience

This seminar covers art of the African American artist from the Reconstruction through the present. The course will discuss the social and economic conditions that affect the artists' work, the conditions against which they struggle, as well as the response of their contemporaries, art critics and the community at large. In addition to slide reviews, there will be videos, visiting artists and studio visits in New York City.
